On return to civilian life he was a drinks salesman and a commercial traveller of bakers sundries before joining Crane Ltd in 1956 as a clerk where he became a computer programmer in the early days of business computing. He remained in IT as a chief programmer and manager working for Ransomes & Rapier, McCorkadale Books and William Clowes of Beccles. Harold was a founder member of the Suffolk Sidecar Club in the 1960s and influential in creating the Skylark run, days out for disabled children.
