  • having charged a 12 year old boy with stealing 13 cigars, two boxes of cigarettes and a pipe valued at 3s from his shop on 6th September 1878. Mr Stevens did not press for a harsh punishment but the boy was imprisoned for 21 days and sent a reformatory for five years

A struggle ensued and Henry was found to have struck the fatal blow, but it was accepted that this was in self defence. The case went before Needham Market magistrates on 25 February 1880 and Henry was committed for trial but released on bail. The manslaughter charge was considered by the Crown Court at Bury St. Edmunds on 20th July 1880 and he was acquitted with 'No True Bill'
