  • he was a mariner on the brig Port Packet of Ipswich which had previously sailed from Gravesend and Rotherhithe on the Thames, where there was talk of cholera. He was given brandy and tincture of rhubarb and along with three other crew succumbed to cholera.

     

    The Port Packet was lost at sea with all hands near Sunderland on 23rd January 1863
